Lake Hiawatha Sports, Classes and Activities

Winter 2005 Program

Lake Hiawatha Regional Park (the "Park") is part of the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The park holds a variety of classes and sports activities throughout the year. Lake Hiawatha Community Center is also the location for a variety of dance classes - i.e., Morris Dancers, Hanna Drum Jam and square dancing.

Fall Building Hours:
Monday through Friday: 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday: closed

POLICIES:

1. Participants will not be considered registered until they have submitted a completed registration form and all applicable fees have been received. Non-Minneapolis resident class fees are 50% higher. Please, only one person per registration form.
2. The Center Director reserves the right to cancel any class due to lack of registration.
3. REFUNDS will only be made with the yellow copy of the receipt.
4. Minneapolis residents who cannot afford program fees can arrange a fee waiver with the Center Director. Fee waivers will only be good for instructor's fees and will not reduce the costs of supply fees.
5. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board actively seeks and supports participation by persons with disabilities in creation programs and services. Follow the general registration guidelines and attach information about the disability and accommodation needed. Every attempt will be made to provide reasonable accommodations. Please contact the Center Director for further information.
6. If anyone believes that he or she has been subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, or handicap, he or she may file a complaint alleging discrimination with either the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board or the office for Equal Opportunity, U.S. Department of the Interior, Washington, D.C. 20240.

Along with sports activities, the community center is also host to a variety of crafts and classes for pre-schoolers, youth, teens, family, adults and senior citizens.

This program is designed with young tots in mind. The tots will get to participate in a group setting doing age appropriate crafts, games, songs, and other fun activities. Each program day will have a different theme.

Let's Become Naturalists!

Come create projects centered on nature! We will do art projects and experience nature by going on mini adventures in the park. Come learn about the animals that play in the snow. Make art out of things found in the wild! Come experience the fun!

Little Artists

Unleash the artist in your little one! We will help your child create works of art! Meet other young children here to have fun with art. Don't worry this class is for fun, there is no previous art history required!

Let your preschooler experience cooking. Your child will learn how to make cool treats, no hot things to touch! We will get the chance to eat our creations! Please let the staff know of any food allergies when signing up!

Get out of your house and play in Lake Hiawatha's multi purpose room. We have several preschool toys. Your child can run, play with bouncy balls, and more. Drop down and join the fun. Daycares are welcome! Come once or come every week! Even if you are a single dad you are welcome to come down with your kids!

Lake Hiawatha Recreation Council

We are seeking people to serve on our Lake Hiawatha Recreation Council (LHRC). Without this group of dedicated volunteers there would not be youth sports at Lake Hiawatha. Please help youth sports continue at Lake Hiawatha by volunteering one hour, once a month. Call for more information.

LHRC NEEDS VOLUNTEERS! - The Lake Hiawatha Recreation Council is a dedicated group of parent volunteers who coordinate the Lake Hiawatha sports programs and serve as a advisory council to park activities. Meetings are the first Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. Please call 370-4930 for more information.
